Grey County Hospital
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
DATE: February 14, 2014
SUBJECT: Grey Bruce Health Services
Owen Sound Council recently turned down a $500,000 donation to the Grey Bruce Health services 0ver five years in a 4-3 vote on the grounds that they were already committed to the Grey County’s $1 million dollar donation. The reasoning was that Owen Sound would pay 16% of the county’s donation and that amounted to $155,600 or about $7.18 per person based on a population of 21,688.
Compare that with the contribution the Town of The Blue Mountains will make based on 26% of County donation or $257.200. That’s $40.00 per person based on a population of 6,453. Our county contribution does not include the TBM contribution to the Meaford hospital made in the 2014 budget of $125,000 over the next five years. This will bring TBM total contribution to $382,000 or $59.00 per person. There is no wonder that the TBM is known as the cash cow at County.
My mother and I were both born and raised in Owen Sound and I will always have good thoughts for the place, but if I am willing to pay $59.00 I think Councillors in Owen Sound should be ecstatic at only having to pay $7.38 per person to help maintain their hospital.
I somehow think that Owen Sound council will rethink this decision in the future and so they should.
AT LEAST THAT’S THE WAY I SEE IT
